Coupled with a traditional broom finish on the surface, this method not only enhances the visual appeal but also provides necessary traction. Factors to consider when having a new concrete patio poured:
When designing and pouring a new patio with Shepherd Concrete, several key considerations will ensure the longevity and functionality of your outdoor space:
Effective Water Drainage: To protect your home’s foundation and prevent water-related issues, it's crucial that your patio includes a 2% grade. This slight slope directs water away from your house, minimizing the risk of pooling and ice formation near the foundation.
Ground Preparation: The durability of your patio is highly dependent on the quality of the underlying soil. Avoid areas with organic material that can deteriorate over time. A well-compacted substrate is essential to provide a solid foundation that supports the concrete effectively.
Careful Removal of Existing Structures: If replacing an existing patio, the removal must be handled carefully to prevent any damage to your home or its foundation.
Managing Expectations: Construction of a new patio may involve some unavoidable disruption to your property, including potential lawn damage. At Shepherd Concrete, we use precision and care to minimize this impact as much as possible and keep you informed throughout the process.
Site Cleanup: Upon completion of your patio, we ensure that the site is thoroughly cleaned, leaving your outdoor area ready for you to enjoy without any post-construction residue.
FAQs:
Every project is different, but before you break ground, there some questions you can ask to set the right expectations for yourself and ensure your project goes smoothly:
-
The cost of any project will vary based on the details of the job, but we can set some baseline expectations.
In any project, the main driver of cost is the square footage of the job, both from a labor and materials perspective. Smaller pours will fall in the $3K-$5K range, with mid-sized pours ranging from $5K-$10K or more for larger pours.
Variables that effect these costs include:
- The accessibility of the space
- The amount of tear out and removal work required
- The desired shape of the slab and number of joints
- Special finishes, stamping, coatings, etc.
-
One driver of cost on a project can be the difficulty of reaching the space in question. If a truck can pull right up and pour from the shoot the job will go easier than if we have to wheelbarrow the concrete to the back of the property by hand.
-
It can be useful to think about what you intend on using your space for. That way we can advise you on project details that may help you get the most out of the intended space.

No. Our specialty is what’s known in the concrete world as “flat-work”. This means pouring slabs for things like patios, sidewalks, garage and pole barn floors, etc, however this does extend to any steps that may be a part of your pad.
